Teaching Philosophy
"I believe that building true confidence is the most effective way to motivate students through complex concepts. Often, academic hurdles emerge when a student loses faith in their own abilities or feels pressure under social expectations. To counteract this 'performance pressure,' I transform the learning space into a highly collaborative environment where mistakes are treated as natural steps in learning. I love to use a 'teach-back' strategy, where students explain the concept back to me after we work through it together. This empowers them to step into a role of authority and truly master the material."
What Makes Maguire Special:
University-Level Educator: Served as a Teaching Assistant at Princeton University's Keller Center for approximately a year. He is highly experienced in mastering material, presenting in front of students, grading papers, and providing face-to-face, individualized feedback identifying where students are excelling or struggling.
Elite Writer & Communicator: As an intern for the U.S. Department of Commerce Office of the Chief of Staff, Maguire authored a dozen memos and created written materials for White House staff, including a private speech that was promptly utilized by the President and Vice President of the United States.
Elite Standardized Tester: He successfully raised his personal SAT score by 300 points via self-instruction and spent his time in high school helping his peers apply those exact same study techniques to cross their own benchmarks.
Experienced Researcher: Collaborated with the lead economist at the Office of Policy and Development, directly contributing to the introduction, appendices, and data visualization elements of the MBDA's 2023 Congressional report. He is also an Undergraduate Researcher for the Julis-Rabinowitz Center for Public Policy and Finance.
