Getting Started with Lessonspace

Creating Sessions
Important: Always create sessions through Teachworks, not directly in Lessonspace. When scheduling in Teachworks, ensure you select "Lessonspace" under "Location."
  1. Schedule your session in Teachworks calendar
  2. Select "Lessonspace" as the location
  3. A virtual space will be automatically created
  4. Access your personalized Lessonspace link through Teachworks calendar
Quick Access Guide
  1. Access your session: Click "View" on your Teachworks calendar entry → "Launch Online Lesson Space"
  2. Test audio and video before each session
  3. Join sessions 5 minutes early to prepare materials
  4. Share the link: Click "Invite Others" in Lessonspace to send link to students/parents
Note: Parents and students can access Lessonspace through their own Teachworks accounts or via the direct link you provide.
Understanding Your Virtual 'Space'
  • What is a Space? A private, virtual environment where tutoring sessions happen, facilitating interaction and learning between tutors and students.
  • Customization: Spaces can be equipped with various tools and materials for individual sessions. You can rename spaces for clarity.
  • No Session Caps: Enjoy unlimited use and scheduling of your tutoring sessions, without time restrictions.

Dynamic Interaction Tools
  • Whiteboard: For collaborative work and problem-solving
  • File Sharing: Easily upload and share necessary files or materials
  • Timer Feature: Use to keep track of session durations transparently with students
  • Communication: Camera, screen share, chat, reactions
  • Tools: Text, equations, calculator, PDF/Word uploads
Session Management
  • Sessions from Teachworks auto-create "spaces" in Lessonspace
  • Rename spaces for clarity (e.g., "Maya - Geometry Tutoring")
  • The same link will be used for all future sessions with that student
  • Closing Sessions: Simply close the tab/window to exit the space
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Screen Sharing Issues
If you cannot share your screen on Mac:
  • Open 'System Settings' (or 'System Preferences')
  • Click on 'Security & Privacy' → 'Screen Recording' tab
  • Find and check the box next to Google Chrome
  • Click 'Quit Now' and restart Chrome completely
  • Rejoin your Lessonspace session

Infinity Mirror Effect
This happens when you share your entire screen while Lessonspace is visible, creating an infinite loop.
Prevention: Before sharing your screen, switch to another window/tab so Lessonspace isn't visible, or choose to share a specific application window instead of your entire screen. Detailed Infinity Mirror Guide
Audio Echo
Solution: Use headphones or reduce speaker volume

IXL's content is aligned with the curriculum that your students are learning in their respective classes. IXL's adaptive platform adjusts to the individual student's level, providing customized practice and immediate feedback.
Education.com is an online learning platform and resource hub designed to support parents, teachers, and homeschoolers in providing high-quality education for children from preschool through high school. The website offers a wide range of educational content, tools, and services to help foster learning and development.

  • High school placement exam Tutor for Aliana In-Person • McLean, VA • 2x a week Prefers female tutor; need 2x a week schedule, commitment from tutor for at least 6 months; need help with high school placement exam and 7th grade subjects. Availability: Monday 7-8p, Tuesday and Thursday 6-7pm.
  • SAT Prep Tutor for Grayson R In-Person • Dolley Madison Library or Tysons Pimmit area • 1x a week Going into junior year, does well in school without much studying. Looking for an engaging tutor, as he responds well to teachers who make learning interesting but struggles with those who are dry. Stubborn but smart, wants to learn test-taking strategies. Open to homework. Availability: Evenings or weekends.
  • Finance 101 & AI Learning 101 Tutor for Student Group In-Person • Chantilly, VA (office) or local library • A few sessions per topic Seeking tutor(s) for a group of 5-6 students. Finance 101: saving, credit, investing basics. AI 101: intro to AI, best practices, hands-on tools. Needs interactive, relatable lessons. Flexible scheduling (evenings/weekends). Pay rate to be discussed.
  • SAT Prep Tutor for Hannah In-Person • Westover Library or any Arlington library • 5-10 sessions Need a 100-150 point increase from 1300 PSAT score. Student will take Magellan's SAT test for baseline. Available most days in the afternoon until 8/25, then weekends only.
  • Geometry, Latin & Chemistry Tutor for Anna In-Person • Arlington • 3x a week Seeking a reliable and committed tutor for a 9-month membership plan. Can be one tutor for all three subjects or separate tutors. Availability: Friday evenings and weekends.
  • 4th Grade Reading, Math, Writing Tutor for Leahnette In-Person • Annandale, VA or George Mason Regional Library • 1x a week Female tutor preferred. Student needs support with reading comprehension, math fact memorization, fractions, and writing clarity. Biggest challenge is confidence, so positive reinforcement is key. Parents would like homework. Availability: After school (~3:30 PM), Friday afternoon, or weekends.
  • 9th Grade Honors Geometry & Biology Tutor for Phoebe In-Person • 508 Summers Ct Alexandria, VA 22301 • 3x a week Female tutor preferred. Motivated student with mild, well-managed ADD/dyslexia. Main challenges are executive functioning and procrastination. Needs 2-3 hours total per week. Family would also like occasional science tutoring for 6th grade son. Availability: Weekdays 3:30-6:00 PM, possibly Sunday late afternoon.
