Teaching Philosophy

"I prioritize building rapport and a personal connection with students, to best be able to support, mentor and motivate them, as well as fostering a learning space where students aren't afraid to make mistakes or ask questions. When approaching a concept a student struggles with, I teach through several examples, breaking a concept down into smaller pieces and checking a student's understanding of each part. Then I work examples with students, and finally help them build confidence in attempting on their own. Often students are capable of much more than they realize, and I focus on showing them how to use their existing problem-solving skills and grow in self-confidence. With elementary-aged students, I also often build games into the session to motivate students and build a positive association with the subject."
