Delali Dagadu is an attorney and experienced tutor who tutors English language arts (ELA), reading, writing, social studies, U.S. and world history, civics, geography and law classes, with a preference for elementary and middle school students. She earned her Juris Doctor, Cum Laude, from the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Indiana University Bloomington, and she is admitted to the bars of the District of Columbia, Maryland and New York. Having grown up in five countries across three continents, Delali tutors in person in students' homes and at local libraries across Alexandria and Arlington, bringing concepts to life through real-world examples.

Areas Of Expertise

  • English Language Arts (ELA): ELA is one of Delali's preferred subjects, and she helps her current 5th grade student with English assignments through an after-school program. When a concept doesn't click as presented in a textbook, she encourages students to explore it through real-world examples.

  • Reading: In addition to English and writing, Delali tutors reading, working with students on their reading skills. She takes learning beyond the classroom setting so students can see how what they read connects to the world around them.

  • Writing: Writing is one of Delali's preferred subjects, and as an attorney she drafts motions, appeals, legal briefs and supporting memoranda. She helps students understand the practical application of a skill beyond the classroom, which keeps them engaged.

  • Social Studies: Social studies is Delali's top preference, especially for elementary and middle school students. She brings each topic to life by connecting it to real-world examples.

  • U.S. History & World History: Delali tutors U.S. history and world history, including at the high school level, and she helps her current 5th grade student with history homework. Having gone to school internationally and grown up in five countries across three continents, she brings a global perspective to history lessons.

  • Civics: Civics is among Delali's preferred social studies subjects. As an attorney, she brings real-world legal experience to her lessons on the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the separation of powers.

  • Geography: Delali tutors geography, including at the high school level, and she has lived in five different countries on three continents and travels a lot. She gets students excited about a subject by having them apply their skills to real-world problems.

  • Law Classes & Bar Exam Preparation: Delali is able to tutor law classes and has experience preparing students for the bar exam. As a Teaching Assistant for Torts at the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law, she facilitated classroom discussions, guided students in applying tort principles to hypothetical case problems, and supported their analytical reasoning and exam preparation skills.

  • Grade Levels: Kindergarten through 12th grade, plus college students and adults. Delali has experience tutoring all grade levels and prefers working with elementary and middle school students.

Teaching Philosophy

"My best and most effective approach is to take the student beyond the classroom setting. I find that when students struggle to understand a concept as presented in a textbook, encouraging them to explore it through real-world examples helps bring the concept to life, making it easier to understand its practical application beyond the classroom. This approach not only gets the student fully engaged, but it also gets the student excited as the student applies his or her skills to solving real-world problems."
