Parents weren’t really paying for algebra help or SAT prep. They were paying for someone who would show up, figure out how their child thinks, and stick with them.

The match comes first
We look at the subject, the student’s personality and how they learn, then introduce one tutor we think is the right fit, with a real bio, before anyone commits.
Honest about SAT results
Every SAT student starts with a free full-length practice Digital SAT. Students have historically averaged around a 100-point increase, but results vary, so we never promise a specific score.
A real team, one text away
Every family has a group text with Michael and our managers, backed by nearly 100 background-checked tutors across Northern Virginia and online.
The people behind every family
Hazel, Vanessa & Andrea
Our managers take care of families from the first phone call through scheduling and finding the right tutor.
Carol & John
Carol manages logistics and tutor hiring. John runs our website and technology.
Makayla & nearly 100 tutors
Makayla, our lead SAT tutor, trains every new SAT tutor, alongside nearly 100 tutors across Northern Virginia and online.
From side job to Northern Virginia’s tutoring team
A civil engineer starts tutoring
Within six months, Michael was working with more than twenty students on evenings and weekends.
Magellan Tutoring is founded
Started with two friends to make tutoring more personal, it grew almost entirely by word of mouth.
Running it solo, then building a team
As schools went remote, Michael kept going on his own and hired the managers who run Magellan Tutoring with him today.
Rebuilding stronger
When Virginia’s Learning Acceleration Grants wound down, the team went back to basics: fast replies, careful matches, real results.
Our biggest year yet
Families commit to the school year through our memberships, because consistency is what moves students forward.
