Teaching Philosophy:
"When a student is struggling with a concept, I pause and ask the student to tell me what they understand in their own words. This way, I can gauge where the gap is between their understanding and what other parts they need help with understanding. I allow the student to ask questions, restate the main ideas in their own words, and I encourage them to try again. I most often remind them that professionals, athletes for example, become professionals with repetition. Thus, it is okay to take a couple of tries before a concept becomes clear. I praise my students for simply trying and as they progress, I cheer them on. I am very patient and build a supportive learning environment. I give them space to gather their thoughts and have a brief conversation about anything that might be on their mind or causing a distraction before getting back to the task at hand."
