Meet Pablo Ibarz - Expert SAT/ACT Prep, Math & Computer Science Tutor

Pablo Ibarz is a dedicated Computer Science student currently pursuing his B.S. degree at William & Mary, maintaining an impressive 3.7 GPA. Based in Alexandria, VA, Pablo draws on a robust technical background and extensive instructional experience to make learning engaging and accessible. His foundational knowledge in computer science encourages him to break down teaching into an intuitive process, constantly adapting and trying different methods until he finds the perfect fit for each student, with a specialized focus on guiding high schoolers through math, coding, and standardized test prep.

Areas Of Expertise:

  • Standardized Test Prep (SAT & ACT): Places a strong priority and focus on SAT Preparation, with the capability to provide comprehensive ACT Prep, guiding high school students through test-taking strategies and core content.

  • Mathematics & Statistics: Confident and experienced in tutoring math subjects up through Calculus 1 and Statistics (including AP Statistics), as well as Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Pre-Calculus.

  • Computer Science & Programming: Specializes in AP Computer Science and programming languages including Java, Python, C++, and JavaScript, alongside core software engineering principles.

  • Game Design & Physics: Experienced in teaching Game Development, 3D animation, physics, and critical thinking, specifically utilizing tools like interactive game engines.

  • Grade Levels: Highly specialized in working with high school students, while remaining versatile and comfortable teaching students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, college students, and adults.

Teaching Philosophy:

"For kids who struggle with individual concepts, as opposed to kids who are generally very defiant and difficult, just roll with It For a time, at least. You can't outright force people to do things they don't want to do. You have to make them want to know it first. Sometimes I'll see if I can relate the concept to their personal interests, a lot of simpler math fits there. But sometimes that doesn't work and it's easier to make a game out of it. If the kid wants the lesson to end, get a related exercise and say 'well, keep it in the back of your head and solve it before the end of the lesson'."

What Makes Pablo Special:

  • Experienced Private Math Tutor: Worked as an instructor for a private tutoring agency, providing personalized high school math lessons. He actively plans curriculums to bring students up to a satisfactory level and speaks directly with parents to investigate classroom issues.

  • STEM Youth Instructor: Served as a Lead Instructor at a youth technology learning center, guiding students through programming, game design, math, and physics to help them build interactive projects.

  • Advanced Software Engineering Projects: Engineered a custom analysis suite using AI tools (Gemini) and Python as an independent contractor, and built a fully interactive audio and digital logic simulation engine in C++ during an independent study.

  • Diverse Extracurriculars: Serves as the Vice President of the William & Mary Game Design Club, participates in Club Judo, and boasts 15 years of piano study and performance.
