Teaching Philosophy:

"When students are struggling to understand a concept, I provide scaffolding to support them arriving at the conclusion. With new concepts in grammar, for example, I begin with direct explanation of the concept, then ask guiding questions to draw connections across languages or connections to previous material... When we hit hiccups, I ask students to guide me through their thinking, so I may understand where the dissonance arises. Once the gap has been identified, I break down the concept into smaller, manageable steps and guided questions, providing examples, analogies, or memorization strategies as needed."

What Makes Alexandra Special:

  • Top-Tier SAT Insight: Having scored a 1540 on the SAT herself, Alexandra possesses a high-level understanding of the test's mechanics and subject matter, making her an excellent resource for high schoolers aiming for top-percentile scores.

  • Certified Language Instructor: Holds a TESOL Certificate and has taught as an Instructor for Virginia Beach Public Schools, where she developed creative lesson plans to assess mastery of the four domains of language.

  • University-Level Educator: Served as an Instructional Assistant for multiple college ESL classrooms at the University of Virginia (including Academic Writing and Advanced Oral Communication) and worked as a professional tutor for UVA athletes taking various levels of Spanish.

  • Customized Learning Strategies: Begins relationships by providing a learning style questionnaire. She uses the results to incorporate interactive games, color-coding, and multimedia tools that perfectly match how the student learns best.
